Newcastle ready to challenge Man United for key summer target

Newcastle United are considering entering the race for a prime summer transfer target at Premier League rivals Manchester United, according to reports.

The player in question? Kim Min-jae.

The name of stopper Kim has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines on the red half of Manchester over the course of the last couple of weeks.

This comes amid claims that the South Korean, fresh off being crowned Serie A Defender of the Year, has been identified as the first-choice central defensive target on the part of the powers that be at Old Trafford.

In fact, some outlets have gone as far as to claim that a deal between United and Napoli is on the verge of being sewn up, with Kim eager to test his talents in the Premier League.

In turn, it will no doubt come as a source of concern for all associated with the Red Devils to hear of a direct rival preparing to enter the fray for the 26-year-old.

As per a mounting number of reports across the European media, though, this is precisely the case.

Amid their own hunt for fresh blood at the back, ahead of a long-awaited return to the Champions League, Newcastle United are now understood to be giving serious consideration to a bid for Kim.

The Magpies view the Napoli star as an ideal long-term partner for Sven Botman, with his soon-to-be-active £42 million release clause making an offer all the more enticing.

In response, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, though, is ready to push for the Reds to activate this clause themselves.
