Fresh update provided on swoop for Kieran Trippier as Newcastle plan for January

Newcastle close on Trippier deal

The wheel of fortune continues to spin for Newcastle when it comes to when they will start wielding their newly-discovered riches in the transfer market, and now, could finally take it to the bank in the form of Atletico Madrid’s England international right-back Kieran Trippier.

As per The Athletic’s Newcastle correspondent Chris Waugh, Magpie boss Eddie Howe may welcome desperately needed reinforcements in the backline during the winter window as Newcastle has grown increasingly confident that Trippier will return to England after a credible spell in the Spanish capital.

Question marks still remain regarding what may happen in the event of the club failing in its attempts to avoid another drop down to the Championship, but the immediate uptick in quality that comes with Trippier would be substantial given the only right-back options at the club existing through Emil Krafth and Javier Manquillo.

Magpies linked with huge January investment

Kieran Trippier may not be the only player in the door at St. James’ Park in January, after multiple sources have linked the club with further business across multiple areas of the park.

Former Aston Villa midfielder Jordan Veretout has been linked with interest from the Magpies, but expensive bandaids in the mold of Aaron Ramsey and Ousmane Dembélé have also been tipped as the club’s new Public Investment Fund-led consortium ownership intends to supply boss Howe with a number of quality control upgrades to stave-off what would be a massive prestige hit if the club does indeed fail to avoid relegation.

The fresh injury suffered by key striker Callum Wilson too came in an untimely manner for Newcastle, with the club understood to be looking into emergency plans to fill the void left in his wake with just Dwight Gayle and Joelinton as recognized center-forwards on Tyneside.
