Newcastle & Chelsea
It’s been a pretty bad start to the season for Newcastle United.
After two Premier League matches since their promotion back to the top flight, Newcastle have recorded two defeats.
Tottenham won 2-0 at St James’ Park in the EPL opener, while Newcastle slumped to a 1-0 defeat at Huddersfield last weekend.
The Magpies face a potential relegation six-pointer this Saturday when they take on West Ham United at home. The Hammers are bottom of the current Premier League table.
Amid all the results and fixtures, Rafa Benitez is trying to boost his squad before the transfer window slams shut on August 31.
That’s lead the Times to announce on Wednesday that Newcastle are ready to do a deal with Chelsea.
Bad boy Kenedy
Newcastle are closing in on Kenedy. The Times tell their readers:
Newcastle, who host Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup, are close to finalising a season-long loan for Kenedy, the Chelsea player, who can play as a winger or full back.
The Toon have already dealt with Chelsea this summer, completing the permanent signing of Christian Astu from Stamford Bridge.
It’s also unlikely that Kenedy will be missed at the Blues.
The Brazilian was sent home from Chelsea’s pre-season Asian tour after he was accused of racism and xenophobia during his stay in China.
Kenedy used social media to make fun of a couple of Chinese citizens, but his jokes backfired badly.
Aside from Christian Astu, Newcastle have signed Florian Lejeune, Jacob Murphy, Joselu and Javier Manquillo this summer, with Borussia Dortmund Mikel Merino joining on loan.
They’ve also been linked with moves for West Ham’s Andy Carroll and Arsenal forward Lucas Perez.
