Fernando Torres is leaving Atletico Madrid
The news broke on Monday.
Spanish legend Fernando Torres is approaching the end of his second spell at Atletico Madrid.
It’s been confirmed that Torres will leave the Rojiblancos at the end of the season, as looks to close out his career with more game time.
Torres has been a fringe play for Atletico this campaign. The 34-year-old has only started nine games in all competitions this season, while his contract in Madrid expires at the end of the season.
Torres has confirmed his Atleti exit, saying:
I think this is the best time to say it. You can all see the prominence that I am having and it is very little.
Today isn’t a day for reproaches. I am just trying to explain to the fans how I feel.
If everything goes well I can go out with a title. This year I’m playing a lot less than the previous one but I have never surrendered.
The former Liverpool and Chelsea striker has seven goals and two assists in 34 appearances for Atleti this season.
Atletico are still in the running to win the Europa League this season. Arsenal are their chief rivals in the competition.
