Newcastle & Brighton
Two clubs who have long been tipped to sign a striker this January are Newcastle and Brighton.
Newcastle are 15th in the Premier League with 23 points after 24 games. The Magpies are one spot above Brighton in the table as the Seagulls have an inferior goal difference.
For the record, the Magpies have scored 22 goals in the league while Brighton have only found the target 17 times.
Feyenoord’s Nicolai Jorgensen
In the past twenty-four hours it’s become clear that Newcastle are trying to sign Feyenoord’s Nicolai Jorgensen.
The Scandinavian attacker has scored 26 goals in 43 games for Feyenoord since joining the club in 2016 from FC Copenhagen. He also has 28 caps for his country, scoring eight goals for Denmark.
In the Dutch league this season he has five goals in his last six appearances, and seven goals overall.
On Thursday the Newcastle Chronicle have posted the following update on the chase for Jorgensen:
It’s understood that Nicolai Jorgensen wants the move and Feyenoord’s position is that if the bid is increased to 20million Euros, they will accept. The missing link so far is that Newcastle haven’t tabled an offer like that just yet – so we wait.
Brighton & Aleksandar Mitrovic
At the same time rumours are flying about that Brighton could be about to sign Aleksandar Mitrovic from St James’ Park.
Indeed, it’s being reported that Brighton offered seven million pound for the Serbian attacker.
That bid has been rejected by the Magpies, but most expect Brighton to return with a higher bid before the January transfer window closes.
A bid of 15 million pounds may convince Newcastle to sell.
NO truth in talk of £15m bid from Brighton for Mitrovic. They've gone £7m so far – and been told there's no dice whatsoever at that price. #nufc
