Napoli target Tottenham defender after Matteo Darmian problems

Matteo Darmian & Manchester United

Transfer speculation over Matteo Darmian’s ongoing career at Manchester United has been around for months.

Signed from Torino a few season back, Darmian has never become a first team starter at Old Trafford.

Darmian has been linked with a host of Serie A clubs in recent times. Yet he remains a Man United payer right now.

Napoli & Tottenham

Darmian is known to be a target for Napoli. Indeed, the likes of the Daily Mail have announced that Napoli made an initial offer to take 28-year-old Darmian on a season-long loan earlier this week.

But Man United are yet to agree to such a deal. And Napoli could now turn their attention to Tottenham instead.

As revealed in the Times on Thursday, Napoli are looking at signing Serge Aurier from Spurs:

Serge Aurier has emerged as a possible target for Napoli if they are unable to sign Matteo Darmian from Manchester United. Aurier had a difficult first season at Tottenham Hotspur but a move to the Italian club could be complicated by factors including that he does not have an EU passport.

That has a knock-on effect for Napoli’s planned signing of Guillermo Ochoa, who is Mexican. There is a limit on the number of non-EU players allowed in the squad in Italy.

Tottenham 1 – AC Milan 0

Spurs picked up a morale-boosting win the International Champions Cup on Tuesday night in America.

Tottenham beat AC Milan 1-0 at the Hard Rock Stadium.

The match-winner for Mauricio Pochettino’s side was French midfielder Georges N’Koudou.

N’Koudou smashed a terrific shot past Antonio Donnarumma after Milan gave the ball away at the back.
