Napoli president confirms pursuit of Arsenal’s Sokratis/Claims Allan to Everton ‘seems to be a done deal’

Napoli eyeing Sokratis

Arsenal secured Sokratis’ services in the summer of 2018.

The Gunners signed the centre-half from German outfit Borussia Dortmund for a fee of around £14m.

Sokratis has since gone on to feature 68 times across all competitions for Arsenal, in which he has scored six and assisted two.

And despite being 32, the Greek was a regular contributor during the early stages of this past season, in which he started Arsenal’s first 11 Premier League outings.

However, since Mikel Arteta took the reins at the Emirates, Sokratis has fallen majorly down the pecking order.

And with Gabriel and William Saliba now also on Arsenal’s books, it is tough to foresee Sokratis garnering any sort of regular football in north London in 2020/21.

Also, as we covered on Wednesday, the Gunners are reportedly looking to move on some of their current crop of central defenders, with Sokratis amongst those tipped for an exit.

In terms of suitors for the Greek, Serie A duo Napoli and Roma have been named as potential destinations.

The former of these clubs, meanwhile, indeed appear to hold concrete interest in signing Sokratis, with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis having recently had the following to say when drawn on the possibility of moving for the Arsenal man:

“We’re working to get Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Arsenal, we’re considering him as an option.”

Allan to Everton looks to be done

De Laurentiis also went on to provide an update on Everton’s pursuit of Napoli star Allan.

The Brazilian has been heavily linked with a move to Goodison Park in recent weeks.

Reports this past Tuesday, meanwhile, went as far as to claim that the Everton board were already planning a medical for the midfielder.

And now, De Laurentiis has confirmed that a deal to send Allan to the Premier League is pretty much done:

“Allan to Everton seems to be a done deal, yes”
