Mikel Arteta speaks out on Arsenal summer transfer window

Mikel Arteta has opened up on Arsenal’s upcoming summer transfer window.

Arsenal’s transfer business has improved a great deal over the last couple of windows, but it is fair to say that their squad could still be improved upon.

So, the Gunners’ fans will no doubt be pleased to hear of Mikel Arteta assuring this weekend that he hopes to make his squad stronger:

“We want to make the squad stronger, we want to make the starting XI stronger, we want to make the specificity and the personality of our players stronger, and that’s what we are going to be seeking to do,” Mikel Arteta said.

Arteta was then asked if Arsenal will copy Liverpool by bringing in two marquee signings (like Virgil van Dijk & Allison for £142m), to which he responded: “I don’t think we are in a position where we can do that, so we have to find other ways to do it.”

Where do Arsenal need to improve?

The obvious area in which Arsenal will have to improve this summer is centre-forward, with both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah due to leave for free in June.

Elsewhere, central midfield probably needs some more experience, whilst a young right-back option to back up Takehiro Tomiyasu is also needed.
