The BBC have announced on Wednesday evening that Stewart Downing is poised to leave West Ham for a move back to Middlesbrough.
According to the report, Downing is set to have his Boro medical tomorrow ahead of a meeting with club chairman Steve Gibson.
All being well, the 30-year-old should then finalise his move from Upton Park within days.
Unconfirmed reports are doing the rounds about the terms of the Downing deal.
Boro are said to be ready to splash £5m on Downing, who is possibly ready to pen a five year deal with his boyhood club.
It’s worth reiterating that the Press Association Sport have announced that no fee has yet been agreed between the clubs.
Nevertheless, the Downing story has sparked plenty of chatter on Twitter, as Boro are perceived to be readying a huge move on Downing.
The winger, capped 35 times by England, is often criticised for his poor performances at Liverpool. However in recent years at West Ham, Downing has shown flashes of his talent with made him into a wanted man at Middlesbrough, right back at the start of his career.

We understand the fee for Downing to be £5m, rising to £7m depending on promotion from the Championship. A real coup for Boro.

Championship club paying £5m and five-year deal to a player (Downing) who turns 31 next week. Take the romance out and that's madness.

I respect the fact that Downing wants to go back to the club he loves and is going to take a pay-cut. You don't see that often nowdays!

There will be the knockers and the haters critical of stepping down. Personally think Downing deserves praise for taking the step. #Boro
