Memphis Depay sends message to Barcelona’s fans ahead of transfer deadline

The transfer-linked Dutchman is set to stay put

Barcelona star Memphis Depay has taken to social media on Thursday night, to confirm his plans for the season ahead.

The subject of Dutch international Depay’s future had, of course, taken its place front and centre in the headlines through much of the summer to date.

This came as the powers that be at the Camp Nou, in a desperate effort to reduce the club’s massive wage bill, entered into discussions over the termination of their talented attacker’s contract.

At one point, it was even widely labelled as a formality that Depay was set to depart, to put pen to paper on terms with Serie A giants Juventus.

As the weeks continued to pass, and confirmation of as much failed to arrive, though, the prospect of the former Manchester United man remaining in Catalunya began to emerge as an increasingly likely scenario.

And now, late on Thursday, Depay himself has moved to confirm just as much.

With just hours remaining before the summer transfer deadline, the 28-year-old unveiled a message on his official Twitter account, explaining that:

‘I have decided to stay at Barça! Fully committed to contribute to the club’s sporting success.’
