Anthony Martial & Manchester United
The Times on Thursday have an interesting article looking at the most likely deals still to be processed this summer in the Premier League.
In a strange situation this summer, Premier League clubs can only buy players until August 9. That’s one day before the new Premier League kicks-off.
It’s worth noting that European clubs have a far longer summer transfer window.
With a week left to do deals, will Anthony Martial remain at Manchester United in 2018-19?
According to the Times, Martial has a 90% chance of leaving Old Trafford in the next seven days. Readers are told the following:
His relationship with José Mourinho was at breaking point even before he was criticised for not returning to the United States after the birth of his second child.
Mourinho will not stand in Martial’s way if he asks to leave the club but United would prefer to sell to a foreign team after interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
If Martial doesn’t move to Spurs, he’s also been tipped with a move to Bayern Munich instead.
Toby Alderweireld & Tottenham
Switching to Tottenham, Spurs remain the only club in the top six who have yet to sign this summer.
At the same time, rumours linking Toby Alderweireld with a summer exit from Spurs continue to swirl about.
Alderweireld had been named as a Man United target. But even if a move to Old Trafford doesn’t happen, the Times still rate the Belgian with having a 90% likelihood of leaving Tottenham in the next week:
Things turned sour for Alderweireld last season after becoming unhappy that Tottenham would not meet his contract demands and hardly playing after recovering from a lengthy hamstring injury.
Manchester United balked at Tottenham’s valuation and he has one year left on his contract, which includes a clause to extend by two seasons.
Unfortunately the Times fail to state any other alternative suitors for Alderweireld if Man United drop out the picture.
