Manchester United set to lose out on transfer target to Real Madrid

Manchester United could be beaten to a key signing by Spanish powerhouse, Real Madrid.

According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid are vying for Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong.

Los Blancos are ahead of the queue for the Dutchman, with Manchester United and Barcelona also keen.

Frimpong moved to current club Bayer Leverkusen after starting his professional career at Celtic. The youngster came through the academy at Manchester City but never made a senior appearance.

Frimpong is already a key player in the Leverkusen side, and has even managed five goals and three assists from right-back this season.

Manchester United’s current right-back Diogo Dalot has been excelling this season under the guidance of Erik ten Hag.

However, there is no real decent options to cover Dalot at present. Aaron Wan-Bissaka was signed from Crystal Palace for £50m, but he has proven he lacks any real talent in the final third and his defensive abilities have also declined.

So, it makes sense for United to be targeting a new right-back.

Whether that will end up being Frimpong remains to be seen, but it is clear United need to add some depth in that area as soon as possible as one injury to Dalot could derail their campaign.
