Manchester United reportedly interested in Norwich‘s Max Aarons

Man United lacking quality depth at right-back

Since joining Manchester United from Crystal Palace in 2019, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has firmly cemented himself as the Reds’ no.1 right-back.

The Englishman’s defensive ability is second to none, with Wan-Bissaka arguably the best defensive-minded full-back currently plying their trade in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old, though, certainly has room for improvement in the final third, an increasingly important area for the modern full-back.

All of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Reece James, Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier currently sit above AWB in England’s right-back pecking order, in part, one would assume, due to the United star’s lack of attacking threat.

Outside of Wan-Bissaka, however, the Red Devils do not boast an awful lot of quality at right-back.

Diogo Dalot, once backed by Jose Mourinho to become the next Gary Neville, is now on loan at AC Milan, following an indifferent stint at Old Trafford.

Elsewhere, Timothy Fosu-Mensah has deputised at right-back on occasion this term, but it remains clear that Wan-Bissaka is a level above the Dutchman.

Man United eyeing Aarons

So, news of Man United being linked with several right-backs as we edge towards the winter window shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise.

The Red Devils have previously been credited with an interest in Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier.

Trippier would no doubt prove more of an attacking threat than Wan-Bissaka, whilst bringing a host of experience.

However, on Wednesday, the Manchester powerhouse are also being linked with another English right-back.

That man is Norwich City’s Max Aarons. The Daily Mail have reported that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to strengthen the right side of his backline when the January window opens, with the Norwegian keen on Aarons.

The 20-year-old was a rare bright spark for Norwich last season, as they failed to stave off relegation to the Championship. And he has since followed up with further impressive performances this time around, helping the Canaries to the top of the English 2nd-tier.

No potential fee is mentioned in the Mail’s report, but, taking into account his age, potential and the fact that he is English, it is safe to assume that Norwich will not let Aarons go on the cheap.

The youngster is under contract at Carrow Road until 2024.
