Manchester United miss out on another target as striker nearing RB Leipzig switch

Benjamin Sesko has agreed a switch to Germany next summer plus the latest on Rabiot

Manchester United are set to be clutching thin air once more as another transfer target in the form of Benjamin Sesko is on the verge of slipping through their fingers.

The Red Devils were keen on adding the teenage sensation to their ranks this summer, with the tall striker having caught the eye in pre-season where he netted the sole goal in RB Salzburg’s 1-0 win over Liverpool.

However, it has since emerged that Salzburg didn’t want to sell this summer, despite previous suggestions that they would have done so for a fee of around 50m euros. Instead, they have set up a deal which will see him depart for sister club RB Leipzig next summer, giving the Slovenian another season in the Austrian league before he takes the next step.

Manchester United are still on the hunt for another striker, and are expected to be returning with an improved bid for veteran forward Marko Arnautovic in the coming days.

The latest on Adrien Rabiot

Manchester United have agreed a deal with Juventus to sign Adrien Rabiot, as per multiple sources, but now have to negotiate personal terms with his agent, who is also his mother, which could be significantly more tricky.

The Red Devils are willing to splash out around £15m on the Frenchman, having seen their chances of signing Frenkie de Jong fade significantly amid interest from Chelsea and De Jong’s own desire to stay at the Camp Nou.

Rabiot’s mother has been known to be a difficult character to deal with in the past, refusing multiple new contracts for her son while at Paris Saint Germain, which eventually saw him leave for Juventus on a free transfer.

Manchester United may find that the difficult part of the deal is still to come.
