Manchester United ‘intensively scouting’ Frankfurt’s Andre Silva

Manchester United ‘intensively scouting’ Frankfurt’s Andre Silva

Silva impressing with Eintracht Frankfurt

Andre Silva has had a fairly mixed senior career to date.

The centre-forward started out playing in his home country of Portugal, and developed into one of FC Porto’s most promising young stars.

He then earned a big-money move to AC Milan in 2017, for a fee believed to be around £34m.

However, Silva struggled for form in Italy, and was eventually loaned to Sevilla, where his fortunes were again mixed.

In turn, in September of 2020, Milan eventually decided to part ways with the now 25-year-old, moving him on to Eintracht Frankfurt in a swap deal which saw Ante Rebic head to the San Siro.

And, since making the move to Germany, Silva has completely turned his career around.

Last season (during a loan stint), the attacker racked up 12 goals and four assists in 25 Bundesliga outings. But it is the current campaign which has seen Silva produce some of his best football at senior level.

The 37-time capped international has managed to score a staggering 18 goals, to go along with three assists, in just 20 league appearances.

Manchester United looking at Andre Silva

And such fine form now appears to have attracted interest from elsewhere in Europe.

According to a report from Sky Germany, Manchester United want to sign a new number nine in the summer, and are intensively scouting Silva.

In terms of a potential fee for the Portuguese, it is suggested that Frankfurt are demanding at least €30m.

Do Manchester United actually need a new striker, though?

They have an option to extend Edinson Cavani’s contract for another year, and, if the Reds instead opt to sign a right-winger, or alternatively hand Amad Diallo or Facundo Pellistri a chance to shine, could utilise Mason Greenwood in his natural position through the middle.
