Manchester United in contact with Spanish club over Argentine central midfielder

Manchester United have been linked with another central midfielder on Tuesday.

According to AS, Manchester United have contacted Real Betis about a potential deal for midfielder Guido Rodriguez.

Rodriguez, 28, joined Betis from Club America two years ago and has made 100 appearances since then, helping them to lift the Copa del Rey last season.

The South American may also be familiar to some United fans as he was linked with a move to Arsenal quite heavily last season.

And whilst Manchester United supporters may be hopeful that Rodriguez could be signed over Adrien Rabiot, it is reported that United are looking at him as an alternative to Juventus’ Rabiot if United miss out on his signing.

That news is unlikely to please many. But a deal for the former PSG star does look to be in the works.

According to the Telegraph, Erik ten Hag and Rabiot spoke on the telephone on Monday with Ten Hag expressing how keen he is for Rabiot to join United and with the French international having told Juventus that he wants to leave.

Following this report, Ten Hag’s judgment has already been called into question. Not only does Rabiot bring a lot of negative press with him, he is also currently just not a very good option, as shown by the below stats:

And as Manchester United’s current crop of central midfielders are clearly not up to the standard ETH needs, then it seems very odd that the Dutchman would even consider a move for Rabiot when there are so many better options out there.
