The signing of Lindelof, 22, is expected to result in the sale of defender Chris Smalling.

Mourinho is focused on bringing in more players to the side which finished 6th in the Premier League last season.

“Last year showed us that we need quality and need to add depth to the squad and Victor is the first to join us this summer,” Mourinho added.

Moves for Monaco’s Fabinho and Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata are thought to be close to completion.
