Manchester United & Arsenal among the clubs monitoring Alassane Plea

A report from England this weekend has credited Manchester United and Arsenal with an interest in Alassane Plea

Alassane Plea impressing with Gladbach

Plea joined Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer of 2018, departing Ligue 1 outfit OGC Nice for a fee believed to be around £20m.

And he has since gone on to notch just over a century of appearances for the German side.

Across these outings, Plea has found the net 36 times, whilst also providing 20 assists.

The Frenchman is a centre-forward by trade. However, he is also more than capable of lining out on either wing, something the attacker has done on a number of occasions during his stint at Borussia-Park.

Plea eyed by Man United & Arsenal

And now, as mentioned above, it appears that Plea is garnering interest from some top Premier League sides.

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United and Arsenal are among the clubs monitoring the hitman, whose current deal at Gladbach runs until the summer of 2023.

The Mail add that Plea is ready to leave Germany, and could be available for a relatively low fee of around £15m.

Is Plea the right man for either outfit, though? The Lille-born Frenchman is a decent striker, but not exactly what you would describe as prolific.

Manchester United in particular are in dire need of a goal-getter to help shoulder some of the burned placed on Anthony Martial, which would of course be exacerbated further if Edinson Cavani departs the Manchester outfit.

So, whilst Plea may represent a cheap option, United could be better served spending a bit more to secure a younger, more prolific attacker.

As for Arsenal, Plea would likely not represent much of an upgrade on Alexandre Lacazette. In turn, with the pair of a similar age, perhaps the Gunners should consider simply offering Laca a new deal.
