The race to sign Breel Embolo
Another day, another update in the race to sign Swiss striker Breel Embolo.
On Monday it looked like Manchester United had free rein to sign the highly prized FC Basel attacker this summer.
In recent weeks, Embolo had been a target for German side RB Leipzig.
However German paper Leipziger Volkszeitung reported this week quotes from Leipzig boss Ralf Rangnick, who confirmed that his club are out of the running. He said:
We’ve informed the agent of Embolo and Basel that we are no longer interested in his transfer.
Schalke step into the mix
On Monday night, Man United’s efforts to sign Embolo were complicated by the introduction of Schalke into the mix.
Schalke’s other forward, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, is also being linked with a move to Ajax, which is another reason why the Bundesliga outfit are now in the frame to sign Embolo too.
Kicker add that FC Basel are looking for 25 million euros for their teenager striker.
