Man United tipped to hand David de Gea huge pay-off in summer as part of goalkeeper clear-out

Man United tipped to hand David de Gea huge pay-off in summer as part of goalkeeper clear-out

Dean Henderson impressing in Manchester

Dean Henderson, of course, enjoyed a superb 2019/20 campaign, on loan at Sheffield United.

The Englishman was a key figure in Chris Wilder’s side, who managed one of the best defensive records in the Premier League, outside of the top clubs.

So, when Henderson returned to Manchester United in the summer, fans of the Red Devils were no doubt hopeful of seeing the shot-stopper in action on a regular basis, especially given the fact that David de Gea has not been the most consistent performer over recent years.

However, Henderson was used sparingly over the first half of the campaign, and did not even make a Premier League appearance until the back end of November.

In recent weeks, though, the English international has finally been afforded a chance to show his worth.

David de Gea missed a number of games after his wife gave birth in Spain, with the shot-stopper having been forced to quarantine upon his return to England.

This led to Henderson starting Man United’s last three Premier League outings, all of which he managed clean sheets in.

The 24-year-old was also in between the sticks for both legs of the Reds’ Europa League triumph over AC Milan.

De Gea to depart Man United?

And if recent reports prove accurate, then Henderson appears to have shown enough to earn Solskjaer’s favour.

According to the Mirror, Manchester United plan to hand David de Gea a huge pay-off as part of a goalkeeper clear-out at Old Trafford in the summer.

The Red Devils are said to be spending a staggering £570,000-a-week on the wages of five senior goalkeepers, £350,000 of which is earned by de Gea.

Elsewhere, Sergio Romero, Lee Grant and Joel Pereira are all set to become free agents at the end of the season.

This would leave just Henderson, who is said to earn £100,000-a-week.
