According to French broadsheet L’Equipe on Sunday, Man United defender Rafael is poised to have medical at Lyon ahead of a €3m move.
Rafael’s position at Old Trafford has been under threat ever since the arrival of Louis van Gaal at United.
The Brazilian right-back indeed lost his place in the team to Antonio Valencia last season, and it now seems apparent that the 25-year-old’s days in Manchester are numbered, particularly after the arrival of Matteo Darmian from Torino.
Rafael, who has not started a league game since October, was omitted from the 26-man squad that Louis van Gaal selected for United’s preseason tour of the United States.
Lyon, who were beaten 2-0 by PSG in the French Sup Cup on Saturday, are ready to sign the defender. Should the deal come to fruition, Rafael will be Lyon’s third summer signing after Jeremy Morel and Claudio Beauvue.
Rafael is under contract at United until 2016.
According to L’Equipe, Rafael could arrive in France on Sunday, ahead of a possible medical with Lyon on Monday.
