Man City’s Raheem Sterling back on Real Madrid’s transfer radar

Man City’s Raheem Sterling back on Real Madrid’s transfer radar

Speculation in the media this weekend has once again linked Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling with Real Madrid.

Raheem Sterling struggling for action

Englishman Sterling has of course been a mainstay in City’s attack for many years now.

In 285 outings for the Sky Blues, the attacker has managed to rack up 113 goals and 86 assists – playing a key role in the club’s recent dominance of the English top-flight.

However, recent weeks have seen Pep Guardiola limit Sterling’s game-time, both in the league and in Europe.

The former Liverpool man featured for just two minutes over two legs as City saw off Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

Before being handed a start in the club’s 1-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday, meanwhile, the 26-year-old had managed just one start across the Citizens’ last four Premier League fixtures.

Real Madrid interested in Sterling

Guardiola attempted to explain Sterling’s lack of recent action this weekend, simply claiming that he has not been starting due to the competition for places in the attacking positions at the Etihad.

Now, though, amid a difficult stretch in his career, Sterling has once again been linked with Real Madrid.

The wide-man fuelled speculation over a potential Bernabeu switch earlier this year, when he refused to rule out joining Los Blancos:

“No one knows what the future will hold. I am a player and I am always open to challenges but right now my challenge is at Manchester City.

“In the future, hopefully, who knows…”

And, according to the Daily Star, Sterling is now very much back on Madrid’s transfer radar, after losing his starting berth to Phil Foden.

His lack of game-time, coupled with contract talks being shelved for the remainder of the season, according to the Star, mean Sterling is once again viewed as a potential addition by the Spanish champions.
