FC Barcelona are searching for a tall and powerful striker next season, according to the front page of Spanish daily Sport on Sunday.
With that in mind, Man City’s Edin Dzeko and Southampton’s Graziano Pelle are named as two possible signings for Barcelona as they look to boost their striking options.
Aside from the Premier League based attackers, Juventus forward Fernando Llorente and Fiorentina’s Mario Gomez are also listed a potential acquisitions for the Blaugrana.
Sport make it clear that Barca’s intention in signing any of the strikers named above, is the give themselves a Plan B when their slick style of football needs an alternative.
Indeed, Sport report that Barca are looking for a striker who can fill the Henrik Larsson role at the Camp Nou: they will play some minutes, but they must have the mental capacity to stay sharp even though in general they will be left on the bench.
Sport further state that Llorente is the first choice target for the Catalans, while it’s reported that the Juve man commands a 12 million euro transfer fee.
Llorente, however, “wants to feels important” say Sport, and with Valencia and Tottenham rumoured to chasing the striker, it’s unclear whether he’d be happy with the terms of the Barca move.
Looking for alternatives, Man City’s Edin Dzeko is tabled as an option, however Sport pour cold water on that possible deal noting the Bosnian earns 5.5 million euros a season at the Etihad.
As for Southampton’s Graziano Pelle and Fiorentina’s Mario Gomez, they are labelled as other options in the Sport article.
