Man City asking price for Sterling revealed

Premier League champions Manchester City are preparing for life without Rasheem Sterling after the club made their compensatory demands known for the England international.

According to Metro journalist Sean Kearns, citing club sources, City values Sterling at just £45 million, and is open to the player departing the club.

Additionally, the Etihad outfit will look to handle the situation similarly to the scenario that saw them sell German starlet Leroy Sané to Bayern Munich, and utilize it as a guideline for how to manage any sale involving Sterling either in January or next summer.

When asked about the situation and rumored interest in Sterling from Spanish giants Barcelona, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola recently responded in typical fashion, but acknowledged the pull that Barça still possess despite the rocky waters the Catalan giants currently occupy in the wake of Xavi’s appointment;

“If Barcelona are interested in any of our players, I am convinced that they can get them. Barca continues to be an attractive club, more than attractive. The city, the club, the history and this for the trainers, for the players always seduces a lot.

Barca can use their media to influence signings. That’s the thing about Barcelona; they can do what they want, good or bad.”

England winger keen for fresh start abroad

Making the jump from the Premier League abroad has historically not been a guaranteed success for English players despite the status that the English top-flight possesses.

For every success story (Gary Lineker, David Beckham, Owen Hargreaves, Steve McManaman, Kevin Keegan, Glenn Hoddle) there is one of abject failure (Michael Owen, Jonathan Woodgate, Jimmy Greaves, Luther Blissett, Micah Richards), but for Raheem Sterling, making a potential-jump to Barcelona would certainly be too good to pass up.

It would not only signal a fresh start to his career and a potential new lease on life, but a new challenge in a footballing culture that the vast majority of English players do not get a chance to experience;

“As I said, football is the most important thing to me — challenges that I have set myself from a young age and dreams as well.

As an English player all I know is the Premier League and I’ve always thought you know maybe one day I’d love to play abroad to see how I would come up against that challenge.”

Sterling has unquestionably lost his place in the team at Man City since last season, and is keen to move on, with the arrival of Jack Grealish and utilization of Phil Foden in the false-nine role meaning that new – and hopefully greener – pastures await a player who still has plenty to give.
