The Star on Sunday, a wholly unreliable tabloid, have reported this weekend that Manchester City and Chelsea are both considering splashing out a whopping £50 million to sign Ross Barkley from Everton.
The headline comes as something of a surprise as while the young midfielder was one of the Premier League’s standout players last term, Barkley has failed to replicate that form during 2014-15 season for Everton.
Indeed, the 21-year-old has suffered from second season syndrome in the Premier League scoring just two goals in 21 appearances for Roberto Martinez’s men this campaign.
Despite his disappointing stats, the Star claim that Man City and Chelsea are weighing up the £50 million asking price that Everton are demanding for their England international.
Were either club to table such a bid, the Star suggest that not only would Everton sell Barkley, but they would look to reinvest the money in signing Adnan Januzaj from Manchester United.
