Man City chairman’s transfer promise ahead of summer window

Man City chairman’s transfer promise ahead of summer window

Speaking ahead of the 2021 summer transfer window, Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has recently stated that the club will add quality to the squad in a couple of key positions.

Man City’s 2020/21

Manchester City’s 2020/21 was another thoroughly impressive one that will be marred by their final game of the season.

The Sky Blues reclaimed their Premier League crown from Liverpool with relative ease and had the title wrapped up with games to spare.

They also won yet another League Cup after seeing off Tottenham in this year’s final. That was City’s fourth LC win in a row, drawing them level with Liverpool for the most League Cups won (8).

Man City would also make it to the 2020/21 Champions League final. City had never reached the last-two before and it is the one trophy that has alluded Pep Guardiola throughout his stint in England.

Unfortunately for Man City, they would once again fail to pick up Europe’s most coveted club prize this year as well, falling to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea in the final in Portugal.

Man City chairman’s promise

Man City’s focus must now switch to their plans for the summer transfer window.

And despite winning another league title and a fourth League Cup in a row, it appears the higher-ups at the Etihad are not going to be taking their foot off the gas anytime soon.

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak recently conducted an interview in which he highlighted the importance of refreshing sides:

“One of the things I’ve learned over the years is that you need to constantly bring talent into the team, refresh and particularly when you are at a high level, at the top.

“Having won the league, it is not actually the time to sit back and be content. That would be your biggest mistake.”

Khaldoon then went on to claim that now is the time for City to send a strong message. The City chief also believes they will be able to fill the shoes on Sergio Aguero and add quality to the squad in a couple of key positions:

“This is actually the time to send a strong message that there is no contentment and that we are not just satisfied with just winning the league.

“We lose a very important legend in Sergio Aguero, very hard shoes to fill but I am confident we will find the right player to fill those shoes. There are other areas in the team that need investment, not too many. It’s not about numbers, it is about quality.

“The squad is a phenomenal squad, which you must have to win the Premier League and get to the Champions League final. We will bring quality to the squad in a couple of key positions.”

Who will Man City target?

In his comments above, the City chairman stated that they will bring quality to the squad in a couple of key positions. But who will Man City look to target?

An obvious area does look to be at centre-forward, with Khaldoon also confident of filling the shoes of Sergio Aguero.

And in recent times, Harry Kane has been linked with a switch to the Etihad. That same report also named-dropped Jack Grealish as a potential target, whilst also suggesting the Manchester powerhouse could look to sign a budget left-back option.
