As covered by 101 on Monday evening, Manchester City have lodged an official bid for West Ham United captain Declan Rice.
The Premier League champions made a formal offer of an initial £80million with an extra £10m in add-ons in hope of beating Arsenal to his signature this summer.
The bid has since been rejected by the Hammers, but with the Sky Blues expected to have more money available to spend this summer and able to offer Rice a better chance of winning trophies, Arsenal fans are likely worried they will now miss out on the Englishman despite having around a month to get a deal over the line without any official offers from anywhere else.
Those fears are likely to be deepened now it has been reported that by L’Equipe that Arsenal are going after Youssouf Fofana as an alternative to Declan Rice.
The 24-year-old has one year remaining on his current contract with AS Monaco and whilst not on Rice’s level in terms of ability, he would likely cost far less than the Hammers captain.
But letting City pick up Rice would only further extend their dominance atop of the Premier League.
