Bad for Riyad Mahrez: Man City’s Rafael Leao contract offer confirmed

Man City & Rafael Leao

Over in Portugal, it’s a tough summer for Sporting CP.

Sporting, who finished last season in third place, are facing a major set of problems as star players hope to leave the club.

Last season a group of Sporting ultras managed to attack their own players.

Back in May, around 50 ultras broke into Sporting’s training and attacked their own players. Those involved included William Carvalho, Rui Patricio, Bas Dost and others.

Now many of these players are looking to rescind their Sporting CP contracts as they search for new employers.

Within hat framework, 19-year-old forward Rafael Leao is looking for a way out of Sporting. And the Sunday Times confirm that Man City are trying to sign the teenager.

Man City’s Leao contract offer confirmed

The Sunday Times have told their readers the following:

Manchester City have offered personal terms to Portugal Under-21 international Rafael Leao, who is without a club after rescinding his contract at Sporting Lisbon.

The Premier League champions have been pursuing the 18-year-old forward since the turn of the year but now hope to take advantage of Leao’s ‘just cause‘ termination to secure a deal.

Rafael Leao was under contract at Sporting CP until 2022. Last season he played 22 games for Sporting in all competitions. He scored 13 goals and chipped in with five assists.

Leao, who joined Sporting’s youth system in 2008, has represented Portugal at Under-16, U17, U19, U20 and U21 levels.

What about Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez?

Will Man City still sign Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez this summer?

Why hasn’t Mahrez yet completed his move to the Etihad Stadium?

The Sunday Sun have an update on the Mahrez to Man City deal, and why it hasn’t happened yet:

Riyad Mahrez’s Manchester City move faces a major final hurdle.

The Algerian wants a pay-off from Leicester before he joins Pep Guardiola’s Premier League champions.

The clubs are close to agreeing a fee but Mahrez wants a slice of the profit from a potential £75million deal.
