Revealed: The midfielder viewed as ‘the solution’ for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal

Sanches; ‘the solution’ for Arteta’s young Gunners

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal looks to keep their rebuilding project supplied with new personnel as they continue to track LOSC Lille’s 24-year-old Portuguese international midfielder Renato Sanches.

Reports in Spanish outlet AS claim that Sanches – who is heavily coveted by a number of teams across Europe – is now viewed as the ideal recruitment candidate for Arsenal to improve the outlook in the center of the park at the Emirates Stadium.

AS cite the opinion of former Arsenal academy graduate and striker Kevin Campbell, after the now TV pundit spoke with Football Insider, stating that Sanches is the player that can provide solutions for Arteta as the Gunners continue to struggle in midfield;

“I think it would be a good signing.He has suffered some injuries, but he is still young and is very powerful in midfield: he recovers balls, runs, shoots and creates chances. Having a player like him in the center of the field can make a difference.”

Speculation on where Sanches will end up next is hardly new, however, with the player himself claiming that he was on the cusp of a move to Barcelona in the summer if not for an injury, making it clear that the former SL Benfica and Bayern Munich midfielder continues to have plenty of suitors that will stand in the way of any move Arsenal look to perpetrate;

“If I hadn’t been injured, I would have signed for Barça this summer. Barça and Lille already agreed, there was an agreement. At first it was a shock, then you put yourself in perspective. Football is about ups and downs and I’m used to it. I stopped thinking about interested clubs and the rest to focus on recovery.”

Arsenal lose to another league rival; miss top-four chance

Arsenal showed their belly to another league rival last night when they lost a nail-biter at Old Trafford against Manchester United in a 3-2 defeat on an evening where Cristiano Ronaldo added his name to the history books once again.

The Portuguese legend bagged a brace against the Gunners, becoming the first player to ever score 800 or more goals in competitive play. It was a dagger in the heart of Arsenal, who had previously posted a six-match run against United where they picked up at least a point (3-3-0), but the loss stripped them of a chance of leapfrogging West Ham and taking control of the fourth spot in the table.

It was the Arsenal youngsters that once again performed for the club when Emile Smith Rowe drew first blood for the Gunners only to be countered by Bruno Fernandes. Then Martin Ødegaard brought proceedings back level early in the second half at 2-2 after an assist from Gabriel Martinelli.

Though questions continue to circle around the senior figures in the first-team, the youthful exuberance of Arsenal seems to be the brightest aspect of the Emirates outfit for the time being.
