Loanee Matt Targett speaks out over Newcastle future beyond the summer

Newcastle United star Matt Targett has, on Monday, provided an insight into his plans with the club beyond the summer.

And the news will no doubt be met with a collective nod of approval on the part of the Magpies' fanbase.

Full-back Targett of course made the move to St. James' Park during the January transfer window, linking up Eddie Howe's squad for the remainder of the campaign, from Premier League rivals Aston Villa.

And the 26-year-old has since gone on to establish himself as a key figure in the club's backline, slotting in at left-back with minimal fuss en route to seeing out the full 90 minutes in ten of the club's last 11 fixtures.

In turn, speaking during an interview with the Chronicle Live on Monday, Targett was inevitably drawn on his future beyond the summer.

This comes with the stopper's current Newcastle terms due to come to an end upon the conclusion of the campaign.

Targett himself, though, remains altogether hopeful that a deal to make his move to Tyneside permanent will ultimately be struck between the respective boards at Villa Park and St. James', with the former Southampton man 'loving' life in Newcastle's colours:

"I'm sure and hope they can sort something out for me. For sure it (decision time) is coming closer so at the moment I am really enjoying my time here and loving playing in front of the Geordie fans here."

Guimaraes makes the difference

Targett's comments on his future of course come fresh off the back of the stopper playing an important role in yet another Newcastle triumph just over 24 hours ago.

After welcoming Leicester City to Tyneside for a Premier League clash, the Magpies emerged on the right side of a 2-1 scoreline owing to a brace, including the following last-minute winner, on the part of Bruno Guimaraes:
