Liverpool transfer news: Klopp on Haaland swoop, Shaqiri deal finally struck & loan departure imminent

Liverpool transfer news: Klopp on Haaland swoop, Shaqiri deal finally struck & loan departure imminent

The rumour mill has continued to churn out transfer stories surrounding Premier League outfit Liverpool on Sunday, with three of the biggest outlined below.

‘Tonight or tomorrow’

The first comes in the form of an imminent departure from the ranks at Anfield.

Reds youngster Ben Woodburn has of course been hotly tipped for an exit from Jurgen Klopp’s squad throughout the summer, amid limited opportunities for game-time behind the club’s host of attacking stars.

And, if the latest comments on the part of Robbie Neilson, manager of Scottish outfit Hearts, are anything to go by, then such a transfer finally looks set to come to fruition.

Speaking in the aftermath of his side’s 1-1 stalemate with Aberdeen this afternoon, Neilson confirmed that he expects Woodburn to complete a loan switch to Tynecastle over the coming days:

‘We’re expecting him up either tonight or tomorrow morning.’

‘It’s been authorised by Liverpool. It is just a case of getting him up and getting him ready.’

‘I am delighted. I would love it to be a permanent, but he is not one we can get so it will be a loan.’

‘Force of nature’

Next up come an interesting set of comments on the part of a tactician altogether more well known on the red half of Merseyside.

Speaking in an interview with Bild TV in his home country of Germany this weekend, Jurgen Klopp was asked for his thoughts on Erling Haaland.

Norwegian hitman Haaland has of course established himself as one of European football’s most in-demand talents over the last couple of seasons, amid a scintillating stint with Borussia Dortmund.

And Klopp is evidently a big fan, with the Liverpool boss having been full of praise for the 21-year-old earlier today:

‘The boy is a force of nature who develops his own energy. He’s an incredibly exciting player who’s fun.’

From here, the German was inevitably pressed on whether his admiration for Haaland could culminate in a Liverpool offer in the near future, but Klopp remained typically tight-lipped:

‘I don’t have his number.’

Lyon bound

Last up on our list of Liverpool transfer updates this weekend comes a long-awaited development on the Xherdan Shaqiri front.

Swiss international Shaqiri has been identified as surplus to requirements at Anfield this summer, on the back of another difficult campaign in 2020/21.

In turn, it had long looked a near certainty that the ex-Inter Milan man would soon seal an exit, with French giants Olympique Lyonnais having emerged as the frontrunners for his signature.

Developments on the transfer had gone somewhat quiet over the last couple of weeks, resulting in suggestions that the move may in fact have been in doubt.

But, on Sunday evening, a telling update has been forthcoming.

As per a host of reliable sources, a deal has been struck between Liverpool and Lyon, with Shaqiri set to link up with the latter for a fee of around €12 million:
