Liverpool set to clash with Premier League rival for red-hot Ligue 1 striker as January window looms

Liverpool set to clash with Premier League rival for red-hot Ligue 1 striker as January window looms

Jonathan David; a wanted man at Liverpool

LOSC Lille’s Canadian starlet Jonathan David is on the wanted list at both Liverpool and Arsenal, but the Reds could view the 21-year-old as the ideal solution in the number 9 role as a long-term replacement for Roberto Firmino.

Reports in French outlet L’Equipe claim that the former KAA Gent standout wants to move to a more competitive league in Europe, and Liverpool could be set to move ahead of Arsenal as a prime destination for the Brooklyn-born and Ottawa-bred forward.

A listed figure of roughly £30 million would be required to pry him away from the northern France outfit, with Arsenal also circling around the Canadian as the Gunners look for a solution to Alexandre Lacazette’s expected summer exit and the regression of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

David has smashed 10-goals in 16-appearances in Ligue 1 this season for Lille, and is in red-hot form for Les Dogues despite the Stade Pierre-Mauroy outfit sitting in the bottom half of the table.

Canada on the rise

In-demand striker Jonathan David headlines a Canadian national team collectively on the rise in CONCACAF, but also the profile of footballers produced by northern neighbors the United States.

His goalscoring form has not been segregated to just club football, either, with David hitting 7-goals in service of his country in an attacking tandem with Besiktas striker Cyle Larin who tops the goal charts with eleven of his own.

David’s goal return for The Canucks is impressive indeed, with 18-goals coming in just 24-caps. His influence despite his tender age cannot be understated, and the same goes for Bayern Munich starlet Alphonso Davies as well as on-loan winger Tajon Buchanan.

Should Jonathan David secure a move to a top Premier League side, it will confirm that Canada is very much finding its true footing in the football world, with two youngsters plying their trade confidently at an elite level serving as evidence that there is much more to come.
