Mesut Ozil

Liverpool to profit from Mesut Ozil’s Barcelona move

Barcelona want a playmaker

Ever since Neymar left Barcelona to join PSG in the summer, the Catalans have been trying to plug the hole left by the Brazilian.

Ousmane Dembele joined from Borussia Dortmund, but the French forward has since suffered a bad, long term injury.

At the same time, Barcelona links to Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho have been raging for months. Yet Liverpool have remained steadfast in their determination to hold onto Coutinho.

On Friday, two of Spain’s leading papers – Sport and Mundo Deportivo – again focus in on Barcelona’s playmaker hunt.

The latest updates will be of keen interest to both Arsenal and Liverpool.

Target: Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are now considering a move for Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil.

Ozil, of course, previously played for Real Madrid.

In a suggestion that Barcelona could move for Ozil in January, MD note on their front page that the German could play in this season’s Champions League as Arsenal were only in the Europa League.

Ozil is out of contract at the season, and Barcelona believe they could sign the German World Cup winner for cheap in the upcoming transfer window.

Target: Lyon’s Nabil Fekir

For Sport, however, Lyon playmaker Nabil Fekir is a target for the Catalans.

Sport announce that Barcelona have already begun talks for the French international.

The front page of the paper reports “the France international is alternative to (Liverpool’s Philippe) Coutinho, and Barcelona already made contacts with the player.”

Fekir has been in incredible form this season scoring 11 goals in 11 games.

For the record, 24-year-old Fekir was linked to Arsenal earlier this week in the British tabloids.

All good news for Liverpool

Whether it’s Ozil or Fekir, Liverpool fans will be pleased with the front pages in Spain on Friday.

It finally seems that claims Philippe Coutinho will leave Liverpool for Barca are beginning to die down.
