Philippe Coutinho

Liverpool tell Barcelona their price for Philippe Coutinho

Will Philippe Coutinho join Barcelona this summer?

Over the past week, as the Neymar to PSG saga has raged on, rumours linking Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho with a move to Barcelona have raged.

On Thursday, Catalan paper Sport reveal that Liverpool have in recent days upped the price to sign Philippe Coutinho.

In worrying news for Liverpool fans, they add that Barcelona and Liverpool will sit down to negotiate over Coutinho next week.

Has Philippe Coutinho put in a transfer request?

With rumours that Coutinho has put in a transfer request, Sport also reveal that the Brazilian playmaker has an agreement with Barcelona, as has been rumoured for some time.

Coutinho agreed terms with Barcelona “months ago” and is willing to take a pay cut to play at the Camp Nou.

Originally, Liverpool asked for 80 million euros to sign Coutinho. Now they are requesting 150 million euros.

Liverpool have no need to sell Philippe Coutinho

Liverpool are in excellent financial health and have no economic reason to sell Philippe Coutinho.

In addition, Jurgen Klopp is counting on Coutinho to lead his team in the coming season and has waxed lyrical about how versatile the Brazilian playmaker can be.

Surprisingly, despite all the rumours from the Catalan newspapers, there have been very little supporting evidence in the English media suggesting Coutinho will leave.

The Luis Suarez precedent

Sport add that relations between Barcelona and Liverpool are excellent following the sale of Luis Suarez.

In a similar manner, Liverpool also denied they would sell Suarez until he put some pressure on and Barcelona reached a fee of 80 million euros.

Barcelona’s expected offer for Coutinho will also be 80 million euros. Surely this won’t be enough to convince Liverpool to sell…
