Liverpool interested in Borussia Monchengladbach’s Florian Neuhaus

Speculation stemming from the German media suggests that Liverpool are interested in Borussia Monchengladbach’s Florian Neuhaus. Could the midfielder be a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum?

Barca bound

The subject of Wijnaldum’s future has of course long represented something of a concern at Anfield.

This comes with the midfielder, who has long acted as a key figure in Jurgen Klopp’s ranks in the middle of the park, inching ever closer to the exit door.

Wijnaldum’s current terms on Merseyside are due to expire in the summer, with little progress thought to have been made in negotiations between the parties regarding a new deal.

In turn, the general assumption, at this point, is that the Dutchman, in the end, will opt to move on, with La Liga giants Barcelona looking his most likely landing spot this summer:

Gladbach star eyed

As such, with Wijnaldum having started in all but two of Liverpool’s Premier League fixtures to this point in the campaign, it goes without saying that his departure will represent a blow for Klopp and co.

The former Newcastle man will therefore require replacing, with recent word doing the rounds in the German media pointing towards a Bundesliga star as one potential target for the Reds.

The player in question? Florian Neuhaus.

23-year-old midfield talent Neuhaus is currently plying his trade for Borussia Monchengladbach, and has enjoyed a fine season to date.

The former 1860 Munich man has notched 6 goals and 4 assists across 29 appearances in all competitions, and will be expected to play a central role tomorrow, when Gladbach get their Champions League campaign back underway in a meeting with Premier League table-toppers Manchester City.

As such, it has come as little surprise to hear of Jurgen Klopp’s interest in his fellow countryman, who has also notched 3 appearances for the German national team.

The Merseysiders, however, will be forced to fend off serious competition if they hope to push a summer deal for Neuhaus over the line, with the midfielder also on the radar of the likes of Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Juventus, according to Kicker.

The 23-year-old’s Gladbach contract, meanwhile, is thought to contain a €40 million release clause.
