Liverpool-linked Lucas Ocampos discusses speculation over his future

Liverpool-linked Lucas Ocampos discusses speculation over his future

Ocampos’ Sevilla stint

Lucas Ocampos joined Sevilla in the summer of 2019, from Marseille.

The Spanish outfit are believed to have paid around £13.5m to bring the winger to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.

Ocampos has since established himself as an integral member of Sevilla’s attack, featuring 75 times across all competitions.

The Argentine notched 17 goals and five assists in 44 outings last season, playing a key role in Sevilla clinching yet another Europa League title.

And the attacker has since enjoyed a decent 2020/21, too, scoring seven and assisting four.

Ocampos responds to transfer rumours

Such fine form, meanwhile, has caught the eye of some Premier League clubs.

Both Liverpool and Leeds United have been linked with the Sevilla standout in recent months.

However, any side aiming to land the winger will likely have to stump up a hefty sum, amid claims that Ocampos’ contract contains a £62m release clause.

And the Argentine himself, in turn, doesn’t seem too keen to discuss the rumours surrounding his name.

When drawn on the rumours of interest in his signature, Ocampos was keen to keep his cards close to his chest, assuring that he is simply focusing on the present, and loves Sevilla:

“I always say the same thing. I’m focusing on the present and I don’t look further ahead of the things that I cannot control.

“I love this city and what has happened in the past two years. I hope it continues.

“I’m very happy here and I’m not thinking of playing anywhere else than here.

“I’m very grateful to the club because they gave me confidence and allowed me to grow in certain facets of my game, which other clubs had not.”
