Reports from Italy have confirmed that Liverpool did try and splash some cash late on in the January transfer window.

For much of the latter part of the window, Liverpool were heavily linked with Shakhtar Donetsk attacking midfielder Alex Teixeira.

But, Liverpool would not pay the Shakhtar asking fee for the Brazilian and there are now strong rumours that Teixeira could be off to China, in order to earn a massive wage packet.

According to Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, via Football Italia, there are now claims that Liverpool bid 30 million euros for Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi on deadline day.

Rumours were rife about the future of Icardi on deadline day as on Sunday night the Argentine had been dropped from the Inter Milan squad that faced AC Milan in the derby.

When Icardi did eventually come on, he missed a pivotal penalty to draw Inter level, minutes before AC Milan bagged two more goals to win 3-0.

Inter Milan rejected Liverpool’s offer for Icardi as they had no time to sign a replacement.

Icardi has long been linked with a move to the Premier League and would appear to have the goal scoring attributes to succeed in England.

Roberto Firmino started up front again at Leicester on Tuesday night and Liverpool do look short of firepower with Daniel Sturridge injured and Christian Benteke very rarely handed starts by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.
