Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has his eyes firmly on preparing for next season, according to a report in Bild today.
The German newspaper claims that Klopp’s number one target for next season is Borussia Monchengladbach defensive midfielder Granit Xhaka.
Klopp is so keen on Xhaka that he met with the Swiss midfielder’s agent, Andy Gross, last December.
The Liverpool manager sees Xhaka as the kind of key player the Merseyside giants need in midfield – an “aggressive leader”.
Xhaka is contracted to Borussia Monchengladbach until June 30, 2019. But, from 2017 he can go for a release clause of 30 million euros.
This coming summer, the fee for Xhaka will be negotiated and that might ensure Gladbach sell the defensive midfielder with a number of big clubs interested.
Besides Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal have been linked with Xhaka, who is expected to impress at this summer’s Euro 2016 tournament in France.
