Liverpool confirmed last week that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain sustained a serious hamstring injury during their pre-season tour of Asia.
On the injury, Jurgen Klopp said: “With Oxlade it will take longer. It’s a serious hamstring injury and it will take longer. But it’s a hamstring, and we all hate this word, we hate the injury but anyway it happens from time to time and now Ox was the one.”
Following news of that injury, Italian outlet Calcio Mercato Web report that Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of Inter Milan’s Hakan Calhanoglu and was considering a move for the playmaker earlier this summer but has now been pushed to pursue a deal after Oxlade-Chamberlain limped off against Crystal Palace.
The Turkish midfielder signed for Inter Milan from AC Milan on a three-year contract last summer and had a strong debut season, in which he scored seven goals and garnered 13 assists in 34 Serie A appearances.
No potential transfer fee is mentioned in the report, but Calhanoglu is under contract with Milan until 2024, so Inter are in no real rush to sell if they do not want to.
Should he indeed make the switch to Liverpool, though, you would assume that the 28-year-old would operate on the right-hand side of Liverpool’s midfield three as he is right-footed.
