Riyad Mahrez ‘quits’ Leicester
At the time of writing, it’s been more than seven hours since the post went live on his official Facebook account.
And it’s still live on his page!
On Tuesday night, a post was published on Riyad Mahrez’s official Facebook page claiming he’s retired from football. The message read as follows:
After the last consultation with many doctors, I’ve decided to stay away from football.
As my time as a football player comes to an end, I would like to say few words.
I want to thank everybody for the kindness and support they have shown me in this incredible city. You will be always in my heart.
Has Mahrez been hacked on Facebook?
Few believe that the Mahrez retirement announcement is real.
For one thing, Mahrez has failed to post the same message across all his official social media platforms.
And, moreover, why would the 27-year-old hang up his boots now?
Mahrez has again been superb for Leicester this season as Man City tried to sign him in January.
Mahrez has scored nine goals and chipped in with seven assists for the Foxes in 25 Premier League games this season.
His last goal came against Bournemouth on Saturday. After the game Mahrez told reporters:
It was a difficult situation but, while I am here, I will give everything for the club — that’s how I am.
I was very pleased with the way the fans have been with me throughout this. It was important for me. That’s why I will keep giving everything for the club.

Off to Man City this summer?
Will Mahrez still be at Leicester at the start of next season?
That’s doubtful following Man City’s late bid for the Algerian in the last window.
Most agree that Mahrez has been an amazing servant for the Foxes for the past three season, and it’s highly likely that Leicester finally allow the winger to leave the King Power at the end of the year.
Whether Man City will still be interested in Mahrez at that stage remains unknown.
