Leicester mistake: Danny Drinkwater’s Chelsea career looks over

Danny Drinkwater’s Leicester mistake

When considering the worst Premier League summer signings of 2017, where does Danny Drinkwater’s move from Leicester to Chelsea rank?

Chelsea paid Leicester 35 million pounds for Drinkwater last summer.

Blues fans would be forgiven for asking ‘why?!’

Drinkwater has only made five Premier League starts for Antonio Conte this season.

In total, the 28-year-old has made 12 Premier League appearances for the Blues, scoring once. He’s been involved in 22 Chelsea matches in all competitions.

Great win today! Solid performance from the lads. #lestweforget 🙌🏼 #CHEMUN

Drinkwater’s Chelsea exit

According to Thursday’s edition of the Times, Danny Drinkwater’s Chelsea career may already be over.

Drinkwater is upset with his lack of game time for the Pensioners, and a summer exit from Stamford Bridge seems likely. Readers are told:

It is understood that he is frustrated by his lack of opportunities and will assess his options in the summer, though the matter is complicated by the uncertainty surrounding several other Chelsea players as well as the firm expectation that Antonio Conte, the head coach, will depart.

Where could Drinkwater go next? That’s unclear as the Times fail to state any potential suitors.

The hunch is, however, that Drinkwater will likely have to take a ‘step down’ from Chelsea, while the Blues could lose money on the midfielder.

Southampton vs Chelsea

Will Chelsea pick up their first win in three matches at Southampton on Saturday?

It’s been a rough few weeks for the Blues after they lost 3-1 at home to Tottenham, before West Ham claimed a 1-1 draw at the Bridge.

Chelsea are fifth in the Premier League, ten points behind Spurs in the table.

As for Southampton, they are third bottom of the division after last week’s 3-2 defeat at Arsenal.
