Leeds reportedly eyeing German international Robin Koch as Ben White alternative

As per a report from the Telegraph, Leeds United are ready to swoop for Robin Koch, if their pursuit of Brighton & Hove Albion star Ben White proves unsuccessful.

Whites’ White pursuit

22-year-old central defender White of course spent this past season on loan at Elland Road.

After once again being deemed surplus to requirements at parent club Brighton (for whom he has yet to make a Premier League appearance) for the 2019/20 campaign, White linked up with Marcelo Bielsa’s promotion-chasing Championship outfit.

And to say that the English stopper subsequently went on to impress with Leeds would be putting it lightly.

White quickly established himself as an integral cog in the Peacocks’ backline, starting all 46 of the club’s league outings, as Leeds booked their spot back in the Premier League for the first time in 16 years.

Koch targeted

As such, on the back of his stellar exploits this past season, news that the Championship title-winners hold an interest in making White’s stay permanent has come as little surprise.

To this point, however, Leeds have seen their efforts fail to bare fruit, amid widespread claims that Brighton are ready to integrate their highly-regarded stopper into Graham Potter’s first-team squad next season.

As a result, Leeds look likely to be forced to look elsewhere for defensive reinforcements ahead of their return to the Premier League.

And, as outlined above, one such option could come in the form of Freiburg star Robin Koch.

24-year-old Koch enjoyed a fine 2019/20 campaign, notching starts in all but 3 of Freiburg’s Bundesliga outings, as Christian Streich’s men narrowly missed out on a Europa League berth.

However, the twice-capped German international’s current deal at the Schwarzwald-Stadion has just a solitary year to run, with reports suggesting that he has no intention of putting pen-to-paper on fresh terms.

The gifted defender could, therefore, be available at a cut-price fee this summer, a situation which Leeds are ready to take advantage of, should their pursuit of White continue to prove fruitless.
