Kevin De Bruyne comments on Lionel Messi to Man City speculation: ‘I don’t really care to be honest’

Messi linked with Man City

The transfer saga of the summer, of course, involved Lionel Messi.

The Argentine, on the back of another disappointing Champions League campaign, set his sights on departing Barcelona by making use of a clause in his contract.

However, following weeks of speculation and talks, the legendary attacker eventually announced that he was set to stay at the Camp Nou for the 2020/21 season.

Prior to this statement, though, Messi was, obviously, linked with some high-profile clubs.

The likes of Inter Milan, PSG and Manchester City were all tipped to move for the Argentine over the summer.

De Bruyne on Messi joining Man City

It was the latter of the aforementioned trio, however, who were by far most persistently linked with Messi.

When all was said and done, though, City of course didn’t manage to reunite the 6-time Ballon d’Or winner with former boss Pep Guardiola.

Nevertheless, Messi is now in the final year of his Barcelona contract, and will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs come January.

Manchester City’s Chief Operating Officer Omar Berrada, meanwhile, moved to reignite his club’s links with the 33-year-old this week, by stating that he believes the Sky Blues possess the financial strength to land Messi.

And now, speaking prior to Belgium’s clash with England on Sunday, Kevin De Bruyne has also been drawn on the possibility of linking up with the Barca talisman at the Etihad.

The midfielder, however, was keen to play down such speculation, assuring that he ‘doesn’t really care’ if Messi arrives or not:

“I don’t really care to be honest.

“If he comes, it’s a good thing, if he doesn’t there is enough good players at the club who I enjoy playing with, so that is not for now.”
