Tottenham now involved in Justin Kluivert row with Ajax
This looks like being a very difficult summer for Ajax, who are set to be shorn of their best young players.
Perhaps there is nothing new here, ever since the Bosman Ruling, Ajax have lost their best young stars, but this summer is shaping up to be rather ugly with super agent Mino Raiola heavily involved.
Justin Kluivert, son of Patrick, and a very highly rated young winger has been in dispute with Ajax for a few weeks now.
Linked with Manchester United, Kluivert is expected to leave Ajax this summer and has come out with an explosive interview with Volkskrant.
Kluivert: “Too much has happened!”
In the interview, Kluivert explains why he will not renew his contract with Ajax.
The 19-year-old says: “I’m not renewing my contract at Ajax. Too much has happened. The decreasing morale, lack of confidence, trying to sell me to Tottenham without me knowing.”
Kluivert heard through Mino Raiola that last summer Ajax and Spurs held discussions regarding the son of Dutch legend Patrick.
These came when Tottenham were trying to sign Davinson Sanchez, the Colombian centre back from Ajax.
Spurs agreed double summer deal with Ajax
Spurs agreed to sign Sanchez for 45 million euros and also a 20 million euro fee for Kluivert. But, he did not want to go to Tottenham.
Kluivert says: “I heard that at the last minute. That says nothing about Ajax, but about the people in the club. Somewhere it was laughing. You see how the football world works. If you get a little higher, it looks like a game. They do what they want. I now get that feeling again: they do what they want.”
Judging by these comments there is surely no way back for Kluivert at Ajax. Plus a move to Spurs looks very unlikely.
Manchester United remain in pole position to sign Kluivert. Spurs, meanwhile, are expected to move for Matthijs de Ligt as a Toby Alderweireld replacement.
