Jurgen Klopp reveals Liverpool’s midfield struggles

Jurgen Klopp has been discussing Liverpool’s midfield woes.

Liverpool saw James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlian leave the club on free transfers at the end of June.

The Reds then lost Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia more recently.

So far, Liverpool have signed Alexis Mac Alister and Dominik Szoboszlai to fill the void in the centre of the park.

However, Liverpool remain without an experienced defensive midfielder heading into the new season.

The Merseysiders are trying to sign Romeo Lavia from Southampton but have been unsuccessful in their pursuit so far.

As a result, Mac Alister was forced to operate as a DM in a recent friendly and Jurgen Klopp has been discussing why this is an issue.

Speaking after the win at Preston North End’s Deepdale, Klopp said: “We have to try it and test a couple of different things. Yes, in a compact formation, Alexis can play there, definitely. If he’s there alone, should he play there?

“No. But now he showed just how good a footballer he is and how good he understands the game because he played here now [for] the first time for us at least and he did really well.”
