Jurgen Klopp refused to rule out making signings during the January transfer window after Liverpool’s win over Southampton.
Liverpool ended the first half of the 2022/23 Premier League season on a high.
However, their campaign on the whole has been dismal and already sees them well off the pace in the title race and the top-four not even looking nailed on.
One of Liverpool’s main issues this season has been their midfield and the lack of quality options in that area.
Jordan Henderson and James Milner are past their best, Naby Keita is always injured, Fabinho has been in poor form and Harvey Elliott lacks the defensive awareness to play in front of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
So, a signing or two in this area would make sense, especially as Henderson, Milner, Thiago and Fabinho are all pushing or over 30.
“We are always open to these kind of things, but we don’t have to open this discussion now,” said the German, who has been criticised for not strengthening his midfield options.
“If there is something possible we will do it but the door is open and we are open as well.
“It is not about wanting. We want to improve the team all the time, we just believe in the training ground we can do it there.”
Jude Bellingham has been the main midfielder linked with Liverpool, but him moving mid-season seems very unlikely.
