Man City’s shopping list after Liverpool
When Liverpool beat Man City in the Champions League, one of the sticks used to bash the Sky Blues was money.
Back by the bottomless pit of petrodollars, Man City’s failure to progress past Liverpool left Pep Guardiola’s men open to criticism.
Haters argued, ‘City have all this money, they spend a fortune on defenders, yet they lose 5-1 on aggregate to Liverpool?!’
Yet, on Thursday morning it’s clear that City will spend big again this summer as the clubs’ summer recruitment plans are laid out.
Man United target Jorginho
According to the Times on Thursday, Man City are set to sign a centre-mid this summer.
And their top target is Napoli’s Jorginho, who has also been linked to Manchester United. The broadsheet report the following:
Guardiola praised Jorginho in the build-up to City’s group stage win over the Italian side earlier this season. Jorginho, who plays for Italy despite being born in Brazil, has also been linked with Manchester United.
If Jorginho is unattainable for City, they have back-up options.
They included Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Weigl or Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred.
At the same time, Yaya Toure is expected to leave the club at the end of the campaign.
Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez
The other key position Guardiola intends to strengthen this summer is his winger options.
Cue links to Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez, whom City tried to sign in the last window:
City want an attacking winger who can also play through the middle. They failed in their bid to sign Riyad Mahrez in January and it remains to be seen whether they will go back in for the Leicester City playmaker in January.
