‘I want to go’ - Chelsea target Zakharyan reiterates Blues desire

Zenit St. Petersburg sensation Arsen Zakharyan has, on Friday, doubled down on his desire to make the move to England, with Graham Potter’s Chelsea.

Zakharyan, 19, has long been viewed as one of the finest young talents in his home country of Russia.

The starlet is a versatile midfielder who can operate anywhere across the middle of the park, but largely excels in a more attack-minded role.

This comes with Zakharyan in possession of a whole host of stellar attacking traits.

Such talents saw the Russian, already capped on four occasions by his country, rack up a head-turning seven goals and eight assists across 29 league appearances in the 2021/22 campaign.

And this has since been followed by a further seven direct goal contributions thus far this season.

In turn, it did not come as a huge surprise to hear of one of European football’s heavyweights, namely the aforementioned Chelsea, expressing a keen interest in landing Zakharyan ahead of the summer transfer deadline.

In fact, late in August, it was revealed that the Blues had gone as far as to table an opening offer for the 19-year-old.

And though, evidently, Chelsea’s efforts to land Zakharyan ultimately came up short, the player himself has since made clear his hope that a deal will in the end be struck.

Speaking on Friday, the teenage prodigy, in turn, made use of the opportunity to once again urge the powers that be at Stamford Bridge to act.

During an exchange with the Common Show in his home country of Russia, Zakharyan was in no two minds in insisting that:

‘My agents and my club have told me that a request has come from Chelsea. I have directly said my position is that I want to join Chelsea.’

After also insinuating that he would be open to a January loan move, the midfielder continued:

‘I know that there is a good competition in my position with Mount, Havertz, Gallagher, so I don’t mind going on loan to adapt to the European league.

‘I was stressed because I wanted this transfer.

‘Right now I have Chelsea and I want to go to Chelsea. I know that other clubs are interested in me, I am proud of that but I want to go to Chelsea.’
