‘I think you know the answer’: Steven Gerrard speaks out on Aston Villa signing Philippe Coutinho permanently

Philippe Coutinho will likely start against Leeds

Steven Gerrard has spoken out about the possibility of Aston Villa signing Phillipe Coutinho on a permanent basis after the Brazilian put on another solid display vs Leeds United.

Villa faced off with Leeds on Thursday evening, likely expecting a tough test after the Whites had looked a much more organised unit during Jesse Marsch’s first game in charge last weekend.

The South American has also provided three assists for the Midlands-based outfit, taking his goal contribution tally to nearly one a game in England this term.

Given Coutinho’s fine form, Aston Villa fans would no doubt love their club to sign the midfielder permanently in the summer.

But when asked about said deal post-match, Steven Gerrard suggested it was more complicated than people think: "Philippe Coutinho is a joy to watch, we love him here. Buy option for €40m? It's more complicated than people think….

"The option is there. If it was my money, I think you know the answer."
