Newcastle’s summer transfer window
After a decent end to the season, Newcastle were able to finish the 2020/21 Premier League campaign 12th in the league.
On the back of this, fans of the North East outfit may have held out some slim hope that their club could then improve the squad over the summer to go on and challenge for a top-half finish this time around.
So far, though, this is yet to happen. The Magpies have signed Joe Willock on a permanent basis from Arsenal after he impressed on loan in the second half of 2020/21.
But outside of that, there has been no more incoming transfer activity at St James’ Park.
Bruce admits permanent signings unlikely
And, judging by Steve Bruce’s recent comments, there is unlikely to be much more this summer either.
Speaking in a press conference on Tuesday, Bruce admitted that there is a chance that they may be able to bring someone in on loan.
However, the Newcastle boss went on to claim that a permanent move for a player is probably not going to happen:
“If we do a loan deal there is then no room in the squad without leaving somebody out. It is a difficult situation as well with finances.
“If there is a loan deal (possible for a player) who can help us that is what we will try and do but, as for bringing in somebody permanently, I can say that is probably not going to happen.
“There is still a little bit of work to do but it has been difficult for all the clubs all summer. I have never known it so quiet and difficult for a lot of clubs with finances.”
